In Which Jesus is a Zombie

Season 1, Episode 19
The Man in the Morgue

And, we're back! Because I spy something that looks familiar...

WOMAN #1: Sir, ,sir, you can't go in there.
BOOTH: (shrugging her off) Bones, you okay?
BRENNAN: Booth, I told you not to come.
DETECTIVE HARDING: Who's this?
BRENNAN: He's FBI. We're sort of partners.
DETECTIVE HARDING: Guy flies down from D.C.? You're more than "sort of."

...yep, it's Protective!Booth! Oh, don't you just love it?
Time for some nuance love: when he takes her chin in his hand near the end to look at the side of her face... oh gosh, Booth, really, sometimes I wonder if you can get any more protective of her, and then, you do.

And, of course, we have more religion talk...

BOOTH: (O.S.) Voodoo. Who's going to believe that stuff?
BRENNAN: (O.S.) It's a religion. No crazier than – well, what are you?
BOOTH: (takes of sunglasses) Catholic.
BRENNAN: (O.S.) They believe in the same saints you do, and prayer. (on Brennan) What they call spells, you call miracles. They have priests.
BOOTH: We don't make zombies.
BRENNAN: Jesus rose from the dead after three days.
Booth quickly turns his head toward her. He's shocked speechless for a moment but when he does recover, he's not happy. Brennan's cell phone rings and she answers it.
BRENNAN: Brennan.
BOOTH: (pointing to emphasize) Jesus is not a zombie. All right? Man. (puts on sunglasses) I shouldn't have to tell you that.

...that ends as it normally does.

There's also how adamant Booth in his thinking that there was absolutely no way Brennan killed the guy. His faith in her is steadfast.

God, I love it.

And, of course, the earring. How he saves her mother's earring for her.

There's really nothing I can say about that that I few sideways hearts can't say themselves.

  1. Chilling stuff, this episode! It was hard not to love Booth's OTT protectiveness. I wonder if they weren't so sure at this point if they had season 2 commissioned, and had to be in a position where a romantic denouement was possible to get wrapped up at the end of s1, because there was an awful lot of romantic heat coming off Booth in particular.

  2. Booth's scandalized demeanor when he says 'Jesus is not a zombie' was priceless.
The way he put his career on the line was epic!

  3. I thought the fact that Bones called Booth was interesting, I mean, she didn't want anyone at the Jeffersonian knowing what had happened to her and in order for Booth to know she must have told him... hmmm.
