In Which We Have A Follow-Up Post

Alright. So every now and then I like to do a sort of follow-up post to elaborate further after certain ideas have been brought to my attention that I hadn't previously considered. (this is a little later than I'd normally do a post like this, but the weekend was busy, so.)

This idea that Booth is sort of “toeing the line of dishonor” with that whole last scene, what he said, how he acted, etc. etc. I can definitely see how one could think that, and I think it's a completely legitimate concern. How Booth acts in this whole situation with Hannah and Bones is vital to the outcome of it all. If Booth and Bones get together but Booth leaves behind his Boothy-values, then he's no longer the same guy, and it doesn't even matter that they get together.

Really, though, what it all comes down to is his intentions. He can't help his feelings. He still loves Brennan. He had to move on, though, so he fell in love with Hannah. But he still loves Brennan, and obviously, this made things difficult, so he suppressed his feelings for Brennan like WHOA. And it worked well for him for awhile... until she started sobbing in his car about how she missed her chance with him. That would definitely shake a person up. It threw him off his guard for a minute, and in that minute, the feelings he'd been keeping contained started to slip out. He doesn't know it, though. To the knowledge of his consciousness, he's still almost entirely in denial. He doesn't know his feelings have started to slip back out again. And now, he's moving from denial of his feelings existing to denial of his feelings slipping out again.

It'd be creepy were he to know, completely, one hundred percent, exactly what he was doing. And while it's definitely arguable that he knows, to some extent, what he is doing, I think he's in denial what exactly what it means. His feelings are starting to slip out, against both his will and knowledge.

So, in short: Give the guy a fucking break and let yourself flail a little bit.

  1. I agree. It's not like he woke up and thought, "You know what? Hannah's out of town, so I think I might be able to get away with eyesexing Bones today." He's conflicted. It's believable. Let the flailing begin.
