In Which Brennan's Starting To Break

Season 6, Episode 8
The Twisted Bones in the Melted Truck

So, this episode. A little boring, honestly. But, as always, there were some things.
And the things that were there were pretty good.
Like how Bones is continuing to be hyper-literal and hyper-rational. Explaining why things are amusing. Getting more and more awkward. Etc. etc. Which is good, since that means she still has feelings that she's hiding, but bad because... she still has feelings that she's hiding.

And Booth insisting that it is serious with him and Hannah. I know I said before that it's about more than his over-compensating, but by having him still doing things like this eight episodes into the season... the show-runners are making it very clear that while there may be more to it, the main idea is is that there is something off with Booth's feelings in regards to his relationship with Hannah, because he insists that everything is fine and dandy too much.

A nothing-to-do-with-anything moment: Sweets' C3PO impersonation was positively glorious.
THAT IS ALL.

But enough of that. Now we have the car scene. It's nice to know some things haven't changed; despite how awkward things are with them, despite how much more easily annoyed Booth is getting with her, despite how much his image of her has changed, he still insists that she could seduce the boy. He tells her she's not allowed to, of course, but the fact that he is still doing his thing where he inadvertently says that she's beautiful is lovely.

And I may or may not have teared up when they talked about Parker calling her cool when she did a cannonball and she nearly drenched his meatball sandwich. Because it's a glimpse of a happy, simple moment within all these ~issues~ they have right now, but it's extra-tragic because it's a moment that has already happened. Which is exactly why I think they put it in there. That, and that it acts as a sort of reminder that these two have history, including things and memories we know nothing about, and not just a romantic history but a partner history, a friend history. I think they know that many of us are so distraught over how things are going with them now, and this acted as a reminder that they have a lot more of a solid base to their relationship than we see from episode to episode, and that just as any sort of getting-together for them is not going to be easy, any sort of splitting apart for them would not be easy either. I'd go as far as to say it's pretty close to impossible.

Another moment I may or may not have teared up at their little awkward sad moment of silence after she said they could use her pool anytime. They know, down deep, that shit's not all sunshine and daffodils, but of course, they don't deal with it. They fall back on what they've always fell back on: work.

I'm not going to lie that although rationally the way Hannah and Parker started getting along was logical, the mindless fangirl part of me hoped so much that they wouldn't get along. Of course. HOWEVER, it should be noted that Parker and Hannah have a very different dynamic than Parker and Brennan, which is definitely something to be used to the advantage of B&B in the end.

And then, there's the “kickster”, as Bones would say: the look on her face when she sees them holding hands.
This requires a FANGIRL MOMENT: OH GOD HER FACE. OH GOD. I CAN'T. MY HEART. IT IS BEING CRUSHED. AAAAAAAAHSUDFGW87HF.

Fangirl speak off so I can say something of substance: that look on her face right there is one of a few that are showing things. It's showing her slowly breaking down. Slowly, yet surely, those feelings she's hiding are bubbling up, which explains why she's also getting more and more hyper-literal, as a means to try and push those feelings back down. But it's not working: they're still coming up. It's going to take more than time, though, for those feelings finally to burst forward, though, even to make a slight leap forward. Something has to happen to give her a wake-up call. Something has to happen.

And I have a feeling it'll happen soon.

;)
