In Which We Have More Trust Talk

Season 4, Episode 17
The Doctor in the Den

And here we have a Cam episode. Not much B&B stuff.

But, say it with me now: There's always something.

BOOTH: For Cam there are emotional considerations here. That’s why she has to be involved in the case.
BRENNAN: With us?
BOOTH: It’s best that you...stay in the lab a little bit more. Just this time around.
BRENNAN: Because that’s where I’m most useful. I understand. You and Cam can rely on your statistically inaccurate guts to solve the case.
BOOTH: She needs this. Just trust me on this, Bones.

This is one of those instances in which most people would assume Bones has no empathy. She's not snarky about not being in the field for the case because she's incapable of empathy, she just doesn't particularly understand this specific emotional situation, so she assumes he just doesn't want her in the field, that hurts her, and she deflects that hurt with snark. But Booth stays in a serious tone. And he goes with the trust situation. Bones and trust have an interesting relationship. She trusts hardly anyone. But she always, always, always trusts Booth, which is a big deal because although trust is partially based on past experiences with a person, a certain amount of faith, of just going with it even though there's not complete evidence to constitute “going with it”, is involved. And the only time we ever hear “Bones” and “faith” in the same sentence is if “doesn't have any” is in between. So she listens to his statistically inaccurate gut, and realizes this really isn't about her. It's about Cam. She trusts Booth. She lets it go.
