The Girl with the Curl

NON B&B OBSERVATION:

BRENNAN: I miss organic chemistry class. (A fond look crosses her face, as Cam glances sideways at her) Those were good times.

ZACK: (nodding, perfectly serious) I miss my first microscope.

BOOTH: (shaking his head at all of them) Great. Yeah. And I miss normal people.

I just love those lines. (and completely irrelevant to everything ever: I hated organic chemistry so much.) Oh, you squints.

BRENNAN: It’s hard to believe when you see women trying to disguise or change themselves.

BOOTH: Mmm.

BRENNAN: (popping another piece of doughnut into her mouth) I never understood that.

BOOTH: (smiling) Well, I mean, no, of course you wouldn’t. (he ducks his head)

(Brennan’s brow furrows)

BRENNAN: Why?

(He lifts his head, staring forward, formulating his words, not quite looking at her, not immediately)

BOOTH: Well, it’s just, you know -- (he finally meets her eyes) -- someone who looks like … you … (Brennan pauses, looking at him attentively as he searches for words) -- well, wouldn’t -- (long pause as he looks into her eyes and nods) -- Just because of the way you look.

BRENNAN: (shakes her head) I don’t understand. What -- way do I look?

(Her face is a baffled, curious expression)

BOOTH: (faint smile) Well, you know, you’re -- you’re structured -- (he pauses, his voice low and his eyes soft) -- very well.

(Brennan looks down, considering this. She smiles back at him.)

BRENNAN: As are you.

In other words:

BOOTH THINKS BONES IS PRETTYYYYY.

Heeheehee.

Oh gosh. It is just too much.

And it's the first time they ever really get close to acknowledging their physical attraction.

And then, of course, the epic gesture of early season 2: Booth choosing to stay with his Pretty Pretty Bones instead of having sex with Cam.

Those few seconds where they stay staring at each other after they both agree to Thai food...

Oh, my.

Something is definitely going on there. Something that really can't be put into words, at least at this point. You just kind of know it, in your gut, as Booth would say. Bones would probably describe it as a euphoric reaction in the brain due to indicators in body language, eye contact, and physical characteristics.

Read: they're starting to like each other. And I mean, like each other.

Which is an even more intense situation than usual because they already have such a deep connection.

We're starting to tread different waters here. This is the point where it's starting to go beyond the regular work relationship, and into some murky territory.
