In Which Booth is With Bones, Cam. All The Way.

Season 2, Episode 3
The Boy in the Shroud

BOOTH: Oh. You know, they say with foster kids, they're really hard on themselves.
BRENNAN: They?
BOOTH: Yeah. Experts, psychologists, like that. Apparently, foster kids feel so alone in this mean world, they lose that knack of trusting other people.
BRENNAN: You mean at work?
BOOTH: Uh, everywhere. You know, the weight of the world. It's – It's just profound. They say that they, uh, have a hard time letting themselves off the hook. They – they grow up with control issues.
BRENNAN: Are you telling me something, Booth?
BOOTH: No. I'm just saying something to keep in consideration when we catch up with Kelly Morris.
BRENNAN: Okay...
BOOTH: If you decide to take some other wisdom out of it, none of my business.
BRENNAN: How Cam and I get along is none of your business.
BOOTH: Yeah. Right. Which I just said. Said just then – none of my business.

We see Booth trying a new way of helping Bones with her emotional issues (which really, one wonders why he didn't figure out to try it before): relating it to the case. Doing it roundabout. It doesn't actually work all that well, mostly because Bones totally gets exactly what he's trying to do, and she's resentful to the nth degree of being manipulated. And anyway, it's not Booth's style, anyway. He's not a roundabout guy. He says things straight-forward. Which is why we really don't see this technique used ever again.

That's not all that important, though. The main, important line in this episode is:

CAM: What if I fired her? What would you do?
BOOTH: I'm with Bones, Cam. All the way. Don't doubt it for a second.

He's with BONES, Cam. All the way. Don't doubt it for a second.

There's really nothing about that to say that isn't already explained in the words, except for this:

OH, SNAP!

  1. This was such a heart-breaking episode, and gave us an opportunity to learn a bit more about Brennan's experiences in the foster system. I thought the music at the end of the ep was epic.
