In Which Bones Suggests Yoga

Season 1, Episode 6
The Man in the Wall

Bones: See what I mean? I think you should find a nice relaxing place to go on that vacation. Somewhere where you can get a massage, maybe do some yoga.
Booth: I don’t do yoga okay, push ups, sit ups, pull ups…that’s what I do.
Bones: Yeah, that’s more cardiovascular.  Yoga deals more with…
Booth: Why exactly are we talking about this?
Bones: Because you’re tense.
Booth: Because we’re talking

The basically describes Booth in a nutshell when it comes to his own emotional barriers. He's constantly bugging Bones to share more, telling her that she needs to be not so cold, more open, etc., but the second she brings up anything to do with him, his feelings, his baggage, his issues, he shuts down.

Bones would probably describe it as “the alpha male trying to hide his weakness,” or something of that sort.

Angela: They got to stage five and the baulked.
Bones: Not Booth. Booth did not baulk.
Angela: Sweetie, it’s always the guy.
Bones: No, Booth is not a baulk-er.

This is one of my favorite things about B&B's relationship – whenever Bones defends Booth, says something about him to someone else, etc., because it is always so utterly revealing of how she feels about him, even on the most minute levels, and she has absolutely no idea that it is. It's just so amusing. And wonderful.

  1. Again, brilliantly astute about Booth there. He's as closed as she is, in so many ways, but because he comes across as laid-back and affable, he gets away with it. Brennan actually has very few hang-ups and is not that reticient a character (less than Booth in my opinion) - it just doesn't occur to her to bleat on too much about herself because it rarely seems relevant to what she is doing at the time. In that way she's very consistent. Completely task-oriented and mentally efficient.
